My Story

My journey in chemistry has been a 25-year adventure. It began with a BSc (Hons), followed by a Master's by Research, and in 2007, I was awarded a scholarship to complete my PhD. Since then, my teaching and research career has taken me to some of the UK's leading institutions, including the universities of Cambridge, Cardiff, Leeds, and Hull.

What truly makes my perspective unique, however, is my deep experience in applied chemistry. I've been incredibly fortunate to work on projects that solve real-world industrial challenges. This has included tackling corrosion issues for Aston Martin, contributing to pharmaceutical research with giants like GSK and AstraZeneca, and working on medical-related research. My experience is broad, covering everything from food science and polymer chemistry to the complexities of formulation and even nuclear chemistry.

This is what makes my approach to A-level tuition different from any other. When I teach a concept—whether it's reaction kinetics or organic synthesis—I'm not just explaining it from a textbook. I'm drawing on my direct, practical experience of how that theory is used in the real world to solve major challenges. I can show you why it matters.

For the past 15 years, I've brought this real-world perspective to my A-level tutoring. My goal is to build your confidence by giving you a true, lasting understanding of the subject that will not only help you excel in your exams but will also serve you well at university and beyond.

My Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy starts with a simple but powerful belief: chemistry is much more straightforward than you might think. Honestly. Unlike subjects that rely on heavy memorisation, its beauty lies in understanding a set of core principles and then learning how to apply them.

I know it's often perceived as difficult, but that's usually because the 'why' behind the concepts gets lost. This is where my approach, built on 25 years of applied research, makes a real difference. We focus on grasping the fundamental ideas first. Then, through targeted practice with exam questions and real-world examples, everything else begins to fall into place. My mission is to guide you to that point where the subject 'clicks', building the confidence and skills you need to solve any problem.

What Makes My Tutoring Different?

My approach is built on a unique combination of high-level academic rigour and extensive, real-world industrial experience.

University-Level Expertise

As a current university lecturer, I provide a deeper understanding of the subject and valuable insight into what top universities are looking for in their students.

15 Years of A-Level Success

I have nearly 15 years of dedicated experience focusing specifically on the A-level curriculum, helping students master the content and excel in their exams.

Your Success is My Priority

This is more than just a business to me. I am personally invested in the success of every student I work with. You are not just another face in a classroom; you will have my dedicated support throughout your A-level journey.

Real-World Application

I don't just teach the theory; I show you how it's used to solve real problems, drawing on my 25 years of research.

What My Students Say

Don't just take my word for it. See what past students and parents have to say about my tuition.

Layla M. (Parent)

Son achieved an A, securing his first choice for Chemical Engineering

"...an outstanding tutor who genuinely cares."

Dr Salama is an outstanding tutor who genuinely cares about their students. My son's confidence in chemistry grew immensely under your guidance. You were professional, communicative, and provided detailed feedback after every session. It was clear that you were invested in his success, and the result speaks for itself. I cannot recommend you highly enough."

Fatima A.

Achieved A, up from a C prediction in Year 12

"...my exam technique improved dramatically."

My biggest weakness was exam technique. I knew the content but would always lose marks on the way I structured my answers. Your focus on past-paper questions and how to interpret what the examiners are looking for was a game-changer. My predicted grade jumped from a C to an A, and it’s all down to the skills you taught me. Thank you!

James P.

Achieved A in Chemistry, now studying Medicine at the University of Manchester

"...a complete game-changer for my confidence."

Before I started tuition with Dr Salama, I was really struggling with organic chemistry and my confidence was low. The sessions were a complete game-changer. The way you explained things using real-world examples made everything click into place. I went from being predicted a B to achieving an A, which was essential for my university offer. I honestly couldn't have done it without your support.

Aisha K

Achieved A in Chemistry, now studying Dentistry at the University of Leeds

"...made the hardest topics seem easy."

I was convinced I would never understand thermodynamics and reaction kinetics. After just a few sessions with Dr Salama, everything started to make sense. Your ability to use real-life examples from your industry research is incredible and made the hardest topics seem easy. Your patience and clear way of teaching were exactly what I needed. Thank you so much!"

Ali M.

Achieved A in Chemistry, now studying Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham

"...the best investment we made for A-levels."

I was part of a small group session, and it was brilliant. Hearing other people's questions helped me understand topics from different angles. You created a really supportive environment where no one was afraid to ask if they didn't understand something. It was easily the best investment we made for my A-levels. Highly recommended!

Frequently asked questions

I have extensive, in-depth experience with all major UK exam boards, including AQA, OCR, and Edexcel. Our sessions will be tailored specifically to the content, structure, and question style of the board you are studying to ensure you are perfectly prepared for your exams.

I offer both. For students across the UK, I provide one-to-one and group sessions online via Google Meet, using an interactive digital whiteboard that we can both write on. For students based in Leeds and the surrounding areas, I also offer in-person tuition.

Please get in touch for a detailed breakdown of my current rates. To make things as simple as possible, I don't require any advance payments or block bookings. Payments are handled professionally via bank transfer after each session is completed.

Yes, absolutely. This is a key part of my service. As a university lecturer, I have a deep understanding of what admissions tutors are looking for. For my regular tutees, I offer dedicated support in crafting a compelling personal statement for chemistry, medicine, and other related science degrees.

I believe high-quality tuition should be accessible. My small group sessions are a great, budget-friendly alternative to one-to-one tuition. I also reserve a limited number of slots at a concessionary rate for students from lower-income backgrounds. Please feel free to discuss your situation with me in confidence when you get in touch.

es, I believe it's essential to ensure we're a good fit before committing to regular tuition. I offer a free, 30-minute online consultation for all new students, and parents are very welcome to join. During this informal chat, we can discuss your specific goals and challenges, I can explain my teaching approach, and you can ask any questions you have. It's the perfect way to see if my style is right for you, with no obligation to continue.

My expertise covers a wide range of pre-university and undergraduate chemistry courses. Alongside my main focus on A-level students (AQA, OCR, and Edexcel), I provide specialist tuition for students on University Foundation Year programmes, those preparing for the GAMSAT (Section III), Applied Science BTEC (Pearson) and those studying chemistry modules as part of an Access to Higher Education Diploma. My broad background as a university lecturer allows me to adapt my teaching to the specific demands of these different qualifications. If your course isn't listed here, please feel free to get in touch to discuss your requirements.
